SNSD revealed their reactions when they heard the name of their group for the first time.
On SBS “One Night TV Entertainment” on November 11th, SNSD members admitted that they were shocked when they were first told about the name of their group.
Before debut, the girls were known as “Yeoja Danchetim (Girl Group Team)” and it was later shortened to just “Yeodantim”. However, ahead of their official debut, the name of the group was changed to “So Nyeo Shi Dae (Girls’ Generation)” and the girls wanted to cry when they heard about the name.
At that time, group names in hangul were not common. So they were expecting English names such “Eternity”, “Yegrina” or “Muse” instead.
Sooyoung commented, “When I heard of the name of our group, I cried. We are not even in the “Savage Generation” and the word “Generation” made our limbs cringe.
The girls brought laughter to the audience when they said, “The person who gave the name ‘So Nyeo Shi Dae’ had left the company”.
