We reported earlier that Girls' Generation and KARA were handled inappropriately in a Japanese manga in which members of both groups became famous through sexual acts and financial transactions to create the "Hallyu" phenomenon. On January 13, DSP Media and SM Entertainment released statements about this controversy.
According to a spokesperson from DSP Media, "The information is incorrect", because the comic presents negative, sexual-related situations within the Korean music industry as if they were the truth. Indeed, the situations were being ported as the truth, as members of the Japanese community 2ch who stated that the situations in the manga were "completely the truth" and that "[Girls' Generation's and KARA's] songs are in Japanese" so it is not K-pop.
DSP Media finally stated that they will be taking immediate legal action because the manga defames the Korean entertainment industry and tarnishes the images of both Girls' Generation and KARA.
SM Entertainment only commented that they was discussing the issue with Japanese lawyers, and that action will be taken soon.
