Japan's Nikkei Entertainment computed the Japanese album sales of 2010 and compiled a ranking of the "power girl groups." According to Nikkei Entertainment, SNSD sold 121,000 albums in Japan last year with their songs "Genie" and "Gee" becoming hits. With this number, SNSD ranks #2 on the list of power girl groups. Ranking #1 is Japanese girl group AKB48, who sold 679,000 albums in 2010.
At #3 is the Japanese girl group Perfume, and the #4 spot went to KARA, another Korean girl group that has been experiencing some troubles with their agency.
As two of the top five are Korean groups, it is obvious that Korean girl groups have been making a big splash in Japan.
