Yahoo! Japan, known as the largest internet portal in the country, recently announced the results for their "First Half of 2011 Search Ranking". The interesting outcome has sparked the interest of many both due to the emergence of rising stars and the presence of familiar names.
According to the list, Girls' Generation was ranked fourth under the category for the most searched artists. Fellow Korean girl group Kara also had a high placing as they claimed the fifth spot. The top place was given to Japan's national girl group AKB48, who succeeded in earning spots for the other categories as well. Popular male group Arashi also came in second.
Girls' Generation's placing is a notable achievement as this is the first time that the girls have been ranked in the Top 10. They were the 13th most searched artist in late 2010, making it an impressive leap in less than a year.
The girls are receiving immense support in Japan, and having just had their debut album certified double platinum by the RIAJ, their popularity is growing even stronger with each passing day. They will continue their activities in the country with their Japan Arena Tour.
