Spreading across Japan and all the way into Europe, SNSD continues to take a leading role in the Korean Wave and is chosen as the artiste with most influence. Looking back to when they first debuted with ‘Into The New World’ in 2007, they were just an unfamiliar group with huge number of members. Yet as every of their title songs took home wins in music programs, they gradually grew into a leading group of the new Hallyu wave, at the same time, now seen as the synonym for “Korean girl group”.
In the “SMTown Live World Tour in Paris” held recently, they also showed off their influence that has spread into France. Firstly, they overturned the formula of “Overseas concert = Overseas Koreans’ enthusiasm”. As images of French fans cheering in excitement while singing along in their awkward Korean were seen during the concert, it is proven that the Europe gate can be possibly opened by Korean Wave.
SNSD officially started their overseas promotion last year. From August 25th last year when they debuted with their ‘Genie’ showcase in Japan, they kicked off the start of their journey to the international stage. During the first showcase held at Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, 22,000 fans were gathered, which was an unprecedented case in the Japan advancement history. Besides this, the sales of their first Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’, has exceeded 500,000 copies since its release on June 1st. In the first week of the album’s sale, they were ranked first on the Oricon weekly album chart. This makes them the first ever Korean girl group to create such history.
During their press conference, SNSD said, “Seems that we gained a lot of popularity through YouTube, it is also our dream to advance into the Japan and US market.” According to SNSD, as they successfully advanced into Japan and performed in US last year May, they also went to France which they dreamed of only 10 months after their first world tour. No matter in Korea, Asia, Europe or South America, SNSD continues to gain popularity based on their superior fandom.
