On January 27th, the Japan Gold Disc Award 2012 honored Girls’ Generation with the “Best Album of Asia” award for their first full Japanese album. Since its release in June of 2011, the album has sold over 780,000 copies and was even ranked by SPIN Magazine as one of the top pop albums of 2011. The album has also surpassed one million shipments and placed in the top ten of the Oricon charts for 17 weeks, a new record for any artists outside of Japan.
Debuting with “GENIE” in 2010, Girls’ Generation also received the “New Artist of the Year” award at last year’s Japan Gold Disc Award 2011. In only a year, they have since released a single, a full album, and held a successful concert tour.
