The use of Korean lyrics for SNSD’s “Gee” Japanese version MV has garnered a lot of attention.

On October 1st, the MV teaser for “Gee” was released by Universal Music Japan via its official YouTube channel. Following the release of the teaser, the 3 minutes and 36 seconds long MV was unveiled on October 6th.

Compared to the Korean version, the duration for the Japanese version MV is about 19 seconds shorter. As compared to the Korean version, netizens and fans have also noticed that the girls displayed a slightly different kind of beauty and charm.

However, the main aspect of the MV that interests fans and netizens is the lyric of the song. There are Korean words inserted into the lyrics and these words have been identified as “진짜 진짜 (really really)” and “좋아 좋아 (like like)” which are mentioned repeatedly in the song.

In addition to that, the concept where SNSD transformed into Barbie Dolls are also well-received by the Japanese fans. In the Korean version, SNSD appeared as mannequins.

Just like the Korean version, the girls appeared in colorful costumes, white shirts and blue skinny jeans. The popular “Gee” dance is expected to hit Japan by storm. Fellow label mate, Minho of SHINee, who was featured in the Korean version, made his appearance again in the newly released MV.

Meanwhile, a total of 83,444 copies of SNSD’s Japanese debut single “Genie” were sold to date and the possibility of breaking the 100,000 copies mark is great, thanks to their explosive popularity in Japan.
